Vaja Balance Case for Zune Review

Product Name: Vaja Balance Case for Zune
Manufacturer: Vaja
Category: Case
Price: Starts at $60

Vaja is renowned for their quality, and I truly do mean quality leather cases for various gadgets. So, Wired Zune thought, will this Argentina-based company also produce high-quality leather cases for the Zune?

Packaging
After being informed by a Vaja staff that Vaja will send a leather case for a review in the Wired Zune workshop, I could hardly wait. But as promised, in a week or so, a FedEx delivery arrived at my doorsteps. Now, looking at the size of the package, I thought that it must be some other product. With much excitement, I literally teared the FedEx packaging up and voila! A small, yet professionally finished Vaja packaging waited inside, surrounded by a massive protection packaging by FedEx. My first impression of this case was simply stunning. I’m sorry Microsoft, but I think the case that the Vaja case comes in is far better than the Zune casing. The simple yet attractive Vaja logo is placed on the center of the box. Then, you slide out another box in the inside of this outer one and inside THAT interior box is the case you’ve been waiting for.

Setup
It couldn’t get any easier with the Vaja Balance case. Vaja is generous enough to supply us with three screen protectors that are sealed with a blue seal itself. After you rip off the orange sticker that should assit you in peeling the blue seal off, you can easily slide the screen protector right into the case.

Now, the sliding the Zune in part. Being quite an expensive case compared to the others on the market, I was extremely careful when sliding the Zune inside from the top cutting. Maybe because it was due to the leather being so new, but at first, the Zune struggled to find its way inside. But after a bit of sliding in and sliding out, the leather seemed to loosen itself perfectly so that the Zune won’t slide out, but still slide in pretty easily.

If you have any difficulty at all, your Vaja case should actually come with a little step-by-step tutorial on how to set it up.

Design & Performance
The Vaja Balance case for the Zune is a state-of-art design. Using the VajaChoice, you can have over a thousand choices on the Balance case itself. In the Wired Zune workshop, I personally dealt with a plain orange Vaja Balance case for the Zune. Orange isn’t my favorite color, let me tell you that. But the color of the leather that Vaja produces is absolutely outstanding. Even if I’m not an orange lover, the fruity color truly blossoms any Zune!

The cutting of the case is done quite superbly too! Zune truly shines with its 3” design. I’ve seen some poor cases for other players where the case was covering up a portion of the player’s display. However, Vaja accurately, and I do mean precisely, cuts out the leather so that it won’t hinder your view of Zune’s magnificent screen.

The only small problem we have is the cutting for the connection port at the bottom of the Zune. It seems a bit tiny for a normal Zune cable to fit in perfectly, but it’s still manageable.

Overall
Vaja’s Balance case for the Zune is a superb work of art. To be honest, the Zune lacks aesthetic wise when compared to other players in the market such as Apple’s iPod series. But with this Balance case, it is like the Zune is starring on Vogue… And we all know how clothes differentiate a good and a bad in a typical Vogue picture… ;)

Other than being a bit pricy compared to your average leather case, Vaja’s case is one for those who truly want to give their Zune the best outfit possible!
